Economic Crisis Drives Family to Sell EVERYTHING!

About Us

Well, here we are, the Hunter family. We  lived in our home from 2001 to 2007. We have had joy and heartbreak in this house.

Right after we moved here with our 2 daughters and our baby granddaughter, our 20 year old daughter was in a serious car accident and almost lost her life. She sustained a traumatic brain injury which left her like a 2 year old. It was her baby who kept her and us going during her difficult recovery. That same day, my husband was supposed to go to a job interview with the State of Washington DSHS, which he had to reschedule.

We spend a couple of weeks begging money from people so we could drive from our rural home to see our daughter in Seattle at Harbor View Medical Center. It was so hard.

Eventually she was able to come home. But, that was just the beginning of another chapter. It was me who took care of her, re-teaching her everything from how to get dressed to how to hold her own child.

Wow! My husband finally got that job with the State, but, it was a road to destruction for his career.

He had a huge caseload, about 60 active cases. He investigated child abuse, and had been doing so for about 30 years. But, he caught his boss in a lie in open court! She went after him with a vengence, and eventually got him fired.

That was when our financial trouble really started. You see, I couldn't work outside the home because I was caring for my injured daughter. I got paid for her care in the beginning, but as she recovered the payments got smaller and smaller. It would have been ok, but I was the only bread winner then.

My husband's unemployment ran out and eventually we got further and further behind in our house payments.

Now, we own 3 years of back payments. The only reason we have been here so long is because the original mortgage company kept selling the loan to others, and becasue we went into a chapter 13 bankrupcy to try and save the house. We couldn't afford those payments, so we have to take the house off the chapter 13.

My husband has been looking for work in his career field, but the reference from the State is keeping him from getting a well paying job. He is currently working as a part time substitute teacher.

I design web sites but am just getting the business off the ground.

I haven't mentioned our other daughter who is 17. She has suffered through all of this, too. She is a trouper, but I worry.

So, that is our sad story. And it is a story that anyone could have. It just so happens that it is our story. And it affects OUR lives. That is why I am creating this web site. I still want to save our home as does the rest of the family. I am hoping to sell off as much stuff as I can, and maybe we can have a down payment to possibly refinance even though our credit is now in the low 500s.
